2010 Horse Camp Schedule and Activities

June 21st-June 25th (Basic Horsemanship, level 1)
July 5th-9th (Advanced Horsemanship, level 2)*
August 9th-13th (Basic Horsemanship, level 1)

Cost is $300.00 for each week of camp

Kid's Camp

Daily
10:00 am: Gather in activity building for morning snack and review of the days Activities&discuss how the prior day went.
10:45 am: Horse games & fun.
12:00 pm: Lunch until 12:30 pm.
12:30 pm: More horse games & fun.
1:45 pm: Put horses & tack away.
2:00 pm: Parent Pick-up.

Monday:
10:15 am: Introductions and Rules of the ranch with staff and volunteers. Name tags for children&evaluation of their equine experience. Practice haltering large toy horse. Pair up horses&children.
11:00 am: Gather halters&walk to mid barn. Meet mini’s&practice haltering, leading, tying, grooming&hoof picking.
11:30 am: Catch&halter horses,&lead to arena.
12:00 pm – 12:30 pm: Lunch break
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Groom, tack up&have first basic lesson.
1:30 pm – 1:45 pm: Un-tack, Groom&return horses to pasture.

Tuesday:
10:15 am - 10:45 am: Meet in schoolhouse & discuss Mondays experience. Gather halters & walk to catch horses.
10:45 am-12:00 pm: Lead back to arena to tie, groom & tack up. Learn to trot, weave through cones. Untack & break for lunch, leave horses in the arena.
12:00 pm - 12:30 pm: Lunch break
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Tack back up with English tack. Walk, trot, & Weave through cones, play egg & spoon game.
1:30 pm – 1:45 pm: Un-tack, Groom & return horses to pasture.

Wednesday:
10:15 am - 10:45 am: Meet in schoolhouse & discuss Tuesdays experience. Gather halters & walk to catch horses.
10:45 am-12:00 pm: Lead horses back to arena to tie & groom. Learn to ride bareback today. Walk, trot & weave through cones, play egg & spoon game again, break for lunch, leaving horses in the arena.
12:00 pm - 12:30 pm: Lunch break
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Tack up western style, ride horses around track in pasture, ride through obstacle course.
1:30 pm – 1:45 pm: Un-tack, Groom & return horses to pasture.

Thursday:
10:15 am - 11:45 am: Meet in schoolhouse & discuss Wednesdays experience. Gather halters & walk to catch horses.
10:45 am-12:00 pm: Lead back to arena to tie, groom & tack up, Western or English, their choice. Go over safety & basic rules on trail riding. Go for short trail ride, then break for lunch, leave horses tacked up & in arena.
12:00 am - 12:30 pm: Lunch break.
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Practice riding through the obstacle course.
1:30 pm – 1:45 pm: Un-tack, groom & return horses to pasture.

Friday: FAMILY DAY
10:15 am - 10:45 am: Meet in schoolhouse and discuss how the week went. Gather halters and walk down to catch & halter horses.
10:45 am-12:00 pm: Lead them back to the arena to groom & tack up, Western or English style, their choice. Demonstrate skills to family, bareback riding, walk & trot, weave through cones, egg & spoon game, obstacle course, etc.
12:00 pm - 12:30 pm: Lunch break
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Hay ride with family, do Eagala game “catch horse” & let the kids tell the parents how to do it, paint the horses if time & weather permits, play time.
1:30 pm - 2:00 pm: Un-tack, groom & return horses to pasture, showing family where horses are kept, & showing them the mini’s & reindeer.

Objectives: Children will learn how to catch & halter a horse safely in a herd environment, lead through gates, & how to properly tie up, how to groom & tack up, ride bareback, Western & English style, trail ride, ride through an obstacle course, play games on horseback, and learn basic’s of Equine Behavior. Most of all, they will learn about horses, & horse safety, and have lots of fun!

* There will be a variety of horseback games that we will have the children play, both before and after lunch, that will strengthen their riding skills, but will also help to teach teamwork.
